My background

I have had a long career teaching Food in a variety of Secondary schools, including head of department in Food and Textiles.

Throughout my teaching career I have taught both Food and Textiles undertaking the roles of Head of Food Technology and 2nd in Design and Technology. 

I have worked as a consultant driving forward food training programmes such as:

  • “Food in Schools” (Primary CPD), 
  • Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) 
  • Food Technology Training, National Curriculum 2014 – Cooking and Nutrition
  • Teaching Food Safely for the D&T Association

I am an accredited Trainer Highfield delivering Level 1, Level 2 Awards in Food Safety.

Recent workshops and training have been with the Food Teachers Centre “Food Technician Skills Academy”, online training for Food safety in Classrooms and the Technician Toolkit as well working with exam boards in preparation for the GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition. 

I am co-author of the new Collins  2016 Revision Guide ‘GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition’.

My expertise

Within my role as a Food Teacher’s Centre Associate and a Registered Food Safety Trainer I can support staff in achieving Level 2 Food Safety Award at all levels.

In terms of the National Curriculum 2014, Cooking and Nutrition I can provide support at Primary and Secondary level with developing food areas, improving skills for non-specialists and supporting staff in the development of the curriculum.

I can also offer advice with bids for Technician support and training for Technicians to enhance teaching and learning.
