Food Teacher Day: One mission, many classrooms
The event celebrates the important work and impact of secondary school food teachers, ensuring that children and young people have inspiring food experiences! It provides an opportunity, at a local level (but delivered nationally), to learn, share and interact together. There will be updates about the national food teaching agenda, consideration for looking beyond what we currently teach, and exploration of food teaching strategies.
The event has three key elements:
  1. Curriculum
review impact ➡️ have courage with your
    curriculum
  1. Look
beyond what you currently teach ➡️ tackling contentious or
    debatable issues
  1. Action
plan for positive food lessons ➡️ addressing issues with
    practical solutions
The event is being hosted regionally (60+ locations!), so check where is close to you, and will be delivered via online presentations and teacher activities.
  • Only
£20 to attend, plus all recorded for catch up.
  • The
event starts at 9:30am and finishes at 2pm.
  • Note:
Each host teacher and their school has its own arrangements for parking,
arrival and lunch – please read before you book.

Support for Key Stage 4 Options Evening

It’s that time of the year again when we need to promote our subject to the wider school community. Whether you run GCSE or Hospitality & Catering we need to showcase our subject.
Things to consider:
Ø  Budget – can you get money from school open evening budget to provide for any ingredients you might need?
Ø  Students – Current year 10 students on duty explaining why they selected subject and have some doing practicals
Ø  Displays – up date your displays to include future careers in the food industry – it is not just about being a chef!
Ø  Ensure you have exam board past papers, examples of past NEA work, text books available for parents/carers and students to view (could you use QR codes to link directly to exam board websites?)
Ø  Remind them, so have examples, of what written / theory work is done in years 10 and 11 – including science – its not just a cooking course!
To help and support you:
1. Food Teachers Centre GUIDES section
Guide 12 has examples of displays and work teachers have shared for open and option evenings CLICK HERE
4.  Food Teachers Centre Resource Bank is an archive service managed by volunteers.
Here you will find resources previously shared by teachers of what they have done on the evening. Sign up to gain fast and easy access to all the files so that you can access them offline (away from Facebook) on GOOGLE DRIVE and DROPBOX.
We ask for a donation to help us with the fixed costs of running the Food Teachers Centre, such as the cloud storage for the Resource Bank and our newsletter and website. If you would like to sign up to gain access, all that we ask is that  you are a member of the closed Facebook group
