What do you think about the proposals for GCSE Assessment? – a food science investigation, cook a 3 course meal in 4 hours ?

Hopefully you have seen the new GCSE Subject Content by now new GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition. This will replace GCSE Food Technology, Catering and Food and Nutrition from 2016 (first teaching) and 2018 will be the first examination. The awarding bodies are developing new specifications to meet these requirements.
OFQUAL and Department for Education are NOW seeking your views on the assessment model. Please note that there are new requirements for GCSE assessment, with the withdrawel of coursework for most subjects and the expectation of terminal examinations.The proposal includes 50% courswork and 50% examination – with tasks including a food science investigation and a cooking a three course meal at the end of the Year 11 course. What are your views? Will there be any issues for the delivery of this? Would you like to see any changes? Do you think they have got the assessment right? Please respond by 24th April.

If you were not able to come to our BETTER FOODTEACHING national face to face in London (Feb 2015), there is a digital ticket. This gives you access to all the presentations, handouts, and resources used over the two days, plus videos of key presentations will be uploaded shortly.

Join these days with expert advice on how to make your teaching accurate, fun and engaging.
  • Learn new practical skills or refresh yourself and gain confidence for the new GCSE
  • Gain valuable advice on common mistakes and what to look out for
  • Think about planning – both for the new GCSE and fine-tuning your KS3 so that it prepares your pupils well
  • Consider what resources you will need and find out where all the current free useful ones can be found
Everyone joining these courses receives access to a delegate digital folder, so that you can access the presentations, handouts, worksheets, food science activities, recipes and much more advice and guidance.

Our sister group has some fantastic summer textiles events called Textiles in Practice’. Some are at the same venues on the same date as our food events – ask us if you want to mix and match.
