The Programme
In January 2017, The Institute of Food science and Technology (IFST) worked with the Food Teachers Centre to undertake a gap analysis, looking at what resources were already available to food technology teachers to identify where IFST might support them. On the back of the gap analysis, IFST decided to concentrate on the food investigation element of the new GCSE (NEA 1) Food Preparation and Nutrition.
This led to the development and signposting of the video and text resources, and the facility for teachers to access food science mentors (IFST members), to help them deliver the food science and technology in the classroom.
Teachers have been using the videos to hep to develop student’s skills and knowledge and improve their performance in the GCSE exam.

As the voice of the food profession IFST promote scientific knowledge, offer-up an insight into the food sector, and set out some of the global food issues to help teachers equip their students, the next generation of food science and technology professionals, with the tools they need to tackle these important challenges head-on.
Teachers can search our directory of qualified and professionally recognised members who have been trained as mentors.
